General Inquiries

Where can I find more information on Dr. Walt and his classes?

Please see the About page for more information on Dr. Walt and the Biblical Hebrew, Akkadian, and Middle Egyptian pages for specific language details. Furthermore, the Homeschool page contains information for high school students seeking foreign language credit.

What learning platform is used for live classes?

Dr. Walt prefers Microsoft Teams for live classes. This platform contains many teaching tools in addition to video chat and screen-sharing. Although free, you do not have to have a personal Team account. A unique link will be provided for each class which will give you access to the classroom. However, Dr. Walt will ask if you have a Skype account (also free) as a backup in case Teams is down.

Which textbooks and other learning resources does Dr. Walt recommend?

In addition to the recommended textbook, Dr. Walt provides a wealth of supplementary material that he has created or gleaned over the years. For more information on his textbook recommendations, please see the Resources page.

I am not located in the US, can I still take classes?

Absolutely! Dr. Walt works with ancient language learners from all over the world. As long as you have a strong internet connection and can read and converse with Dr. Walt in English, it doesn’t matter where you are located. The booking calendar shows class availability in your time zone (based on individual computer/IP settings). Moreover, the PayPal checkout system accepts all major credit cards and currencies.

What happens if there are technical difficulties during a class?

Unfortunately, we all know that internet platforms and general internet access are not without issues at times. If there is a glitch with Microsoft Teams, it may be possible to switch to Skype to complete a class. If there is an internet outage, Dr. Walt will attempt to message alternative options. Generally, this depends on how much of the class has already been completed, but Dr. Walt does his best to make up any class time lost to internet issues (provided it is not an ongoing occurrence.)

Payment Options

What payment methods can I use?

Ancient-Languages.com uses PayPal for checkout. No account is required, and you can use all major credit cards. Funds are collected in USD, but all currencies are accepted. When needed, PayPal will make the currency conversion for international students. If you have a PayPal account, other options, like PayLater, are also available. Either way, payments are processed on PayPal’s highly encrypted site, and we never even see your payment information. We work on bringing you excellent language learning classes and leave PayPal to do what they do best – encrypting and securing your payments for ultimate protection.

Is a payment plan available?

You can purchase classes individually or in packages of ten. Packages provide a lower price/class. In either case, you will need to pay for the class(es), in full, at the time of booking. However, if you have a PayPal account, PayLater is an option that divides the payment into four installments. Please note that PayLater is an agreement that you make with PayPal, not Ancient-Languges.com. This option will appear on the screen during the checkout process.

Private Classes

How do I book a private class?

For your first class on Ancient-Languages.com, please use the booking form for private classes. You can select from a consultation, a single 55-minute class, or a package of (10) 55-minute classes. While booking your first class, an account will be created for you. In the future, you can simply log into your account to book additional classes.

How far in advance should I book private classes?

At a minimum, you must book each class at least 24 hours before the intended start time. Long-term weekly students are advised to pick a consistent day and time and book several weeks in advance to ensure their desired time slot is available. Students scheduling tutoring, as needed, are asked to book within a week of the class, from the slots that remain. This helps ensure that long-term students retain their slots and classes don’t need to be rescheduled.

Can I reschedule or cancel a private class?

You may reschedule private classes up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. You can do this from your student account page, and rescheduling a class has no impact on your payment. However, Ancient-Languages.com reserves the right to drop any student repeatedly taking advantage of this lenient rescheduling policy.

Once the 24-hour mark passes, you cannot reschedule a class. In this case, you will need to cancel the class if you are unable to attend. You can cancel the class from your student account page. Please note that class fees still apply, in full, for all canceled classes. If you do not cancel or show up to your class, Dr. Walt will mark the class as a no-show after 15 minutes. Please note that Ancient-Languages.com reserves the right to drop any students who repeatedly do not attend class.

What should I do if I am running late for a private class?

As noted above for rescheduling or canceling a class, if you do not arrive to class within 15 minutes of the start time, Dr. Walt will mark the class as a no-show and close the class window. However, if you know you will be arriving late, please communicate this to Dr. Walt, and he will keep the class window open so you may enter when you arrive.

I booked a package but reached my goals, can I get a refund for the unused classes?

Yes, Ancient-Languages.com will cancel your package and refund the remaining classes via PayPal, minus a $10 processing fee.

What happens if Dr. Walt is unable to attend a private class?

In the rare event that Dr. Walt is unable to attend a class, he will communicate this with you as soon as possible. The class will then be available to reschedule from your student account at a time convenient for you. No class fees will be lost.

Group Classes

How do I book a group class?

At this time, all group classes are student-formed. Please discuss availability with your group members and then schedule a consultation through the booking page or contact us with the number of participants, the time slot of interest, and the desired number of classes. We will then create a custom class that your group members can book through their individual accounts. Once we create the class, we will add a link to the bottom of the booking page and email it to you. For each group member, registering for your first class automatically creates a private student account on Ancient-Languages.com where you can further manage your classes.

Can we reschedule or cancel group classes?

Together, group members chose a convenient day and time for all parties. Unless, all group members agree and discuss an alternative plan with Dr. Walt, the standard class time will be used weekly and will remain unchanged for the duration of classes. Due to so many different parties involved, group classes cannot be rescheduled or canceled.

However, whenever a group member is unable to attend a class, they will be provided with a link to the class recording which can be viewed at a time convenient for them. Similarly, group members are encouraged to communicate with their group mates for help with homework outside of class. Please note that Ancient-Languages.com reserves the right to drop groups/group members who repeatedly do not schedule or attend classes.

What should I do if I am running late for a private class?

Simply log in to the class as soon as you can. Dr. Walt will likely already have started with your group mates, but you can jump in where they are at. If, for some reason, all group members will be running late, please communicate this to Dr. Walt, and he will keep the class window open so you may enter when you arrive, otherwise, he reserves the right to close the class window after 15 minutes of no one showing up.

Our group booked a package but reached our goals, can we get a refund for the unused classes?

Yes, Ancient-Languages.com will cancel each group member’s package and refund the remaining classes via PayPal, minus a $10/student processing fee.

What happens if Dr. Walt is unable to attend a group class?

In the rare event that Dr. Walt is unable to attend a class, he will communicate this with each group member as soon as possible. The class will then be available for the next unpaid weekly time slot so that no class fees are lost.
